On Wednesdays I teach Performance Arts to "at-risk" middle school youth in Venice, CA, with the non-profit organization, Inside Out Community Arts. I love the work but it can be trying, so I wanted to incorporate some yoga and meditation into my days before working with the kids. So 3 months ago, when we started the Neighborhood Arts Program with Inside Out, I rented the small movement room in the building from 1 - 2 on Wednesdays and have been offering free yoga classes to anyone interested.

Due to the small space, the classes are usually 3 ppl, but there have been more and less. Really, that hour is most important for me, but I opened it up to others because I wanted to practice teaching and it's a great way re-energize midway through the day. So naturally it's created an intimate Inside Out Yoga space for artists, staff, friends, and volunteers. Now that we're getting closer to the end of session, I'm going to miss my weekly class. Hopefully when I come back from the Karma Yoga Tour in Costa Rica this summer I'll be able to start teaching a class there again!

Last week was Spring Break so I didn't have my "free yoga wednesday" class or the inside out workshop. We didn't even have the Saturday Peace4Kids class OR the Sunday Restorative. My week felt so barren. So last night I was feeling a little icky after a humbling day and at 11:30 pm I decided to unroll my mat.

It had been too long...

I immediately felt better. My headache started to release and my back was loosening up. I forgot how good it felt to flow, even after just a few days without it. Pretty soon I felt great and had a list of things on my mind that I wanted to do before bed. So I finished my practice, did what needed to get done, and then slept like a baby.

So here were are at Tuesday, looking ahead at the week:

Wednesday - Yoga at Inside Out 1 - 2 pm (FREE)
Saturday - Peace4Kids YOYOYoga at 10am (FREE)
Sunday - Temescal Hike at 9:30am (FREE)
and Restorative with Rochelle at the Yoga Cottage 6pm ($20)

A young, eco conscious traveler, went to Montezuma, Costa Rica, for a yoga and surf retreat. Having heard nothing but wonderful things about the country and it's environmentalism, she was surprised to find the beaches covered in trash. To hear her story and see what she did about it, visit Shoe Project / Proyecto Zapato to become inspired to you do something to support the cause.

Tonight I had a group of great individuals at my home and we ate delicious food, danced to uplifting music, invented yoga twister, played chess, did acro-yoga, and snuggled in the cold night air.

It's amazing to think that THESE ARE MY PEOPLE!!!

On Sundays lululemon athletica provides complimentary classes for the community.
Last night about 20 people showed up for Tara from YAS's class and it was amazing.
I feel so grateful to be a part of this company.
